Tethering

My DSLR (the Canon EOS 60D) and others can be controlled from a computer for a variety of uses, including time-lapse photography, astrophotography and use as a webcam (see Video).

Here is a list of some useful software for this:

• gPhoto – already mentioned in Video
• Entangle: Provides a GUI for controlling the camera from a computer
• INDI, dedicated software for astronomy and astrophotography, which can be used with DSLRs in conjunction with KStars
• darktable can be used to tether one’s DSLR and do things like time-lapse photography.
